Biomolecular Interaction Platform

The platform facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to address challenges in the fields of Structural Biology and Systems Biology. The platform enables users to unveil their complete set of interconnected biomolecules and its implications for a given organism. 

The platform includes a versatile 600 MHz NMR spectrometer featuring a cryoprobe optimized for 1H, 13C, 15N and 19F detection. This magnetic field guarantees signal dispersion for complex spectra of biological macromolecules and a robust radiofrequency management system. The cryoprobe increases the system’s sensitivity, allowing the detection of weaker interactions and enlarging the range of potential ligand-receptor interactions. An additional high power amplifier enables simultaneous pulse and irradiation in 1H and 19F. Taking advantage of the 19F QCI cryoprobe and the three independent channels, the equipment is set up for not only screening ligand libraries but also biomolecular interactions.

The Biomolecular Interaction Platform offers complimentary techniques to NMR, namely: Surface Plasmon Resonance imaging (SPRi), Circular Dichroism (CD), Isothermic Titration Calorimetry (ITC), a particle size measurement system, and the soft ionization technique used in mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF). 

The SPR imaging Detector comes with a CCD video camera, being an ideal solution for the development of label-free and multiplexed bioassays. Thus providing detailed information on molecular binding, biomolecular interactions and kinetic processes.

As for the in-cell validation of targets, Bimolecular Fluorescence Complementation (BiFC) and Yeast two-Hybrid (Y2H) techniques are offered. These techniques allow users to identify their sets of molecular pairs that do interact and discard those other sets of interactions with no physiological meaning.
