Jesús Campos, named ‘Young Researcher 2021’ Award, by La RSEQ and Lilly

Dr. Jesús Campos, a researcher at the Institute of Chemical Research, will receive this award promoted by the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry and Lilly, which recognizes promising young Spanish scientists under 40 years of age.

His award-winning work focuses on the exploitation of unusual models of chemical cooperativity in order to discover new molecular activation mechanisms. In Jesús’ words: “The ultimate goal of this research is the extension of these molecular processes to the development of cooperative catalysts that are efficient in processes of industrial and environmental interest. “This prestigious award means more enthusiasm to continue working on the exploration of new challenges in organometallic chemistry and cooperative catalysis. It is also a direct recognition of the efforts of all the students and collaborators with whom I have had the good fortune and privilege of developing my research.”

This Award includes a prize of 3,000 euros that will be presented in the context of a telematic meeting organized by the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) and which will be held at the end of June or beginning of July. At this virtual meeting, Campos will give the lecture “Unconventional Modes of Chemical Cooperation for Bond Activation and Catalysis”, in which the researcher will show the results of several of the cooperative systems that he has developed in the last four years. “All of them have the peculiarity that they are based on chemical cooperation between two metal atoms through very unusual processes. This has allowed us to discover several chemical transformations that were unknown until now and to begin to explore their applications in catalysis,” says Jesús.
