Science Fair

Students are also invited to present their projects to cicCartuja scientists and the general public during the Future Scientists Day, which is held during Science Week in November.Since the first edition in 2003 and uninterruptedly, the Centro de Investigaciones Científicas Isla de la Cartuja (cicCartuja) develops several initiatives aimed at dissemination and popularization in the Science Fair.

The aims pursued are to promote the dissemination and social communication of science, to stimulate science education, to contribute to the development of scientific vocations and, finally, to encourage the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit among the participants.

At the stands of its three research institutes (the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis, the Institute of Materials Science of Seville and the Institute of Chemical Research), visitors are offered a variety of explanations and live scientific demonstrations through the numerous activities programmed.

In addition, a jury made up of four prestigious scientists from cicCartuja is responsible for awarding the Future Scientists Award to the best science outreach project presented by students from secondary and high schools at the stands of the Seville Science Fair. After the jury’s decision, checks for the value of the prize (€500) are awarded, as well as two runner-up prizes of €250, made out to the educational center, for activities and/or educational material for the winning groups, at the discretion of the project coordinators.

Asimismo, se invita a los alumnos y alumnas a presentar sus proyectos a los científicos del cicCartuja y público en general durante la Jornada de Futuros Científicos, que se celebra durante la Semana de la Ciencia en noviembre.
