Consolación Álvarez, from the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (IBVF) —attached to the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Centre— has been one of the nine researchers awarded the second edition of the ComFuturo Programme.
ComFuturo is a social responsibility programme based on the public-private alliance of the CSIC General Foundation with leading private entities in the country.
This programme is focused on attracting highly qualified young scientists to develop new R&D&I projects with a high transfer potential. The grant obtained will finance the researcher’s employment contract for a maximum of three years.
The project that Consolación will develop is entitled: Design of new biofertilisers for agricultural use that enhance plant-cyanobacteria interaction. and will be associated with an ambitious program that is being developed in the IBVF’s Photosynthetic Organism Biotechnology group, aimed at developing new biofertilizers for crops in the Guadalquivir marshes, funded by the Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA) in collaboration with the cooperative Agroquivir SCA.
Consolación Álvarez holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Seville, and has been recognized with numerous awards throughout her still short career, such as the Extraordinary End-of-Degree Award, Second National End-of-Degree Award and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. Consolación also has extensive experience in the private sector, where she has directed the “Enzymes Discovery” project for Abengoa Bioenergías Nuevas Tecnologías.
