The cicCartuja hosts the Network on Ionic Transport Systems in Plants

This edition, which takes place on May 16 and 17 at the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Center, has the participation of 32 researchers belonging to 10 research groups active in the study of transport proteins through different cell membranes.
Ionic transport systems support a wide range of fundamental processes in plant physiology, including membrane energization to drive the transport of other substances, action potentials, early cell signaling events, pH control, intracellular vesicle trafficking, osmotic adjustment and cell expansion, mineral nutrition, resistance to stresses and stomatal activity that controls water relations and photosynthesis and, ultimately, agricultural production.
The Network cooperatively studies the biochemistry of protein transport, trafficking and intracellular dynamics, its regulation by post-translational modifications or by intrinsic properties of its structure, its functional domains and its three-dimensional molecular structure.
This Network of Excellence is funded by the State Research Agency of MINECO (BIO2016-81957-REDT).
