Jesús Campos, awarded by the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry

Jesús Campos Manzano, a scientist at the Institute of Chemical Research (IIQ) belonging to cicCartuja, has been awarded one of the four Young Researcher Awards from the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry. This recognition is sponsored by Sigma-Aldrich, a leading company in biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals, and is awarded to young researchers who aim to be scientific leaders in their field.

A doctor in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Seville (US), Jesús Campos is currently affiliated with the US and the IIQ, specifically with the “Organometallic Chemistry and Homogeneous Catalysis” group, thanks to a Marie Curie contract. Despite his youth, Campos has an extensive curriculum of scientific awards and recognitions, including two Extraordinary Doctorate Awards, the Young Award for Scientific Culture, awarded by the City Council of Seville, and the ‘Javier Benjumea Puigcerver Research Award’. In 2016, he received the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla Award, as well as one of the Grants for Researchers and Cultural Creators awarded by the BBVA Foundation.

The studies carried out by this young Sevillian scientist focus mainly on the chemistry of iridium, rhodium, gold and platinum, as well as catalytic processes for organic synthesis and applications in green or environmentally sustainable chemistry.

Campos has also been involved in the writing of more than forty scientific publications, being the first author in twenty of them. All have been published in international journals with a high impact index, such as Nature Chemistry, Nature Communications or Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS).
