Seville, May 19, 2014. cicCartuja presented the second edition of the Future Scientists Award during the XII Science Fair, which was held from May 15 to 17 at the Palace of Exhibitions and Congresses of Seville. This award was created with the aim of fostering vocations and promoting the interest of students in research and, more specifically, to highlight talented young people, their teachers and their centers. The award is endowed with a check for 500 euros for educational material.
The jury was composed of researchers Ana Isabel Becerro Nieto (ICMS), José Mª Ortega (IBVF) and Juan Cámpora (IIQ), each of them belonging to one of the three institutes that make up cicCartuja. After visiting the stands and evaluating all the projects presented by the Secondary and High School centres, the jury agreed to award the prize to the project ‘Music and electronic configuration’, presented by the student Daniel León Periñán, from the San Alberto Magno private school (Dos Hermanas).
Starting from the electronic configuration of hydrogen and following the order of entry of the electrons, Daniel discovers the music contained in different elements of the periodic table by composing the piece entitled “Quantum escape”. After this investigation, the student has managed to give each of the chemical elements a musical composition based on its electronic configuration and the quantum numbers of the electrons that form them, all in a didactic and melodious way. To obtain more information, scores and audiovisual content related to the project, you can download an interactive iBooks format made by the student himself in the following link, in which he explains the relationship between an element and its corresponding music.
