Euromat, the most important scientific meeting at European level in the field of advanced materials, will be organised by the Institute of Materials Science of Seville (ICMS). Agustín Rodríguez González-Elipe, Research Professor at the CSIC, will chair the scientific committee of this congress, which will take place at the Hotel Barceló Renacimiento in Seville from 8 to 13 September 2013. He will share this role with Frank Mücklich, professor at the German University of Saarland, who has also been appointed chair of this event, which will be organised by the Spanish Materials Society (Sociemat) and the Portuguese Materials Society (SPM), on behalf of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS). In addition, Professor Julián Martínez, Director of the Secretariat of Research Centres, Institutes and Services and researcher at the ICMS, will collaborate in the organisation of the event as a member of the management committee and head of the local committee.
Among the many activities that Euromat 2013 will include the participation of prestigious experts in the field of structural and functional materials, such as Taiwan’s Yuan Tseh Lee, President of the International Council for Science and Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1986 for his outstanding contribution to the dynamics of elementary chemical processes. In addition to the plenary lectures, the conference will address the practical aspects of advanced materials, focusing on the applications they can have in business and in an environmentally friendly environment.
On the other hand, as has been the case since its origins in 1989, Euromat also offers the possibility of sponsoring the event and exhibiting the latest innovations from companies or research centres related to materials science and technology at stands. As for the participation of researchers, the congress is still open for abstracts, which will close on 15 February. As the organisers point out, between 1,500 and 2,000 people are expected to attend. At the last meeting, held in France in 2011, 2,000 papers were presented and some 1,800 people attended.
