Two cicCartuja scientists, researchers Pedro Nieto Mesa and Jesús Angulo Álvarez, both from the Instituto de Investigaciones Químicas (IIQ), have been appointed vice-president and secretary, respectively, of the Grupo Especializado de RMN (GERMN) of the Real Sociedad Española de Química (Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry). Formed in November 2001, the GERMN aims to bring together specialists in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance around periodic scientific meetings, conferences, colloquia and publications, where researchers can present their results and share projects. Likewise, this group tries to promote the dissemination and specific teaching in the NMR technique, which is why, in recent years, it has encouraged the organization of summer courses and has promoted travel grants for laboratory technicians and young students attracted by nuclear magnetic resonance.
Both Pedro Nieto, CSIC research scientist, and Jesús Angulo, CSIC Ramón y Cajal researcher, have developed an extensive career in the field of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, being closely linked to the NMR Service offered by the cicCartuja. From this Center, they have promoted training in this area of study, through various conferences and scientific activities. Among these activities is the Course on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance: Applications in Chemistry and Biology, organized at cicCartuja in 2010, in which both researchers projected an interdisciplinary image of spectroscopy, considering it as a very useful tool not only for chemistry and biology, but also for physics, pharmacy and medicine.
