The Centro de Investigaciones Científicas Isla de la Cartuja (cicCartuja) and the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBM) have joined forces to organize the Workshop on Unserstanding Transient Molecular Interactions in Biology, which will take place in Seville from May 18-21. From an interdisciplinary perspective, this workshop brings together internationally renowned researchers in the fields of biology and biochemistry. One of the most notable attendees was Professor Robert Huber, winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1988, who gave the inaugural lecture.
The Workshop, directed by Miguel Ángel de la Rosa and Irene Díaz-Moreno (both scientists from the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis), is mainly oriented to the study of the most relevant aspects of transient molecular interactions and complex biological formations. The aim of the lectures, communications and round tables being held is to offer an integrating vision of biology in its different facets, opening the way, as Miguel Ángel de la Rosa points out, to “a new area of research known as systems biology”.
On the other hand, the conference aims to encourage research by PhD students and young European researchers, who a few days ago were able to apply, thanks to the collaboration of FEBS, SEBBM and GERMN, for financial aid to cover registration, travel and accommodation expenses.
