CSIC researchers identify photocatalysis as a key technology for driving solutions in health, energy and the environment
  • Marta Castellote (IETCC), Gerardo Colón (ICMS) and José Luis Hueso (INMA) have coordinated a report as part of the ‘Science4Policy’ programme, in which they analyse the potential applications and future challengesThe ‘Conexión Fotocatálisis’ scientific network, which brings together the national strategic groups in the field of scientific and technical research in this area, has presented a report entitled Strategies to strengthen photocatalysis as a key technology for the climate, energy and health transition. In this paper, researchers from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) have analysed how the latest findings in this field place it in a strategic position for the development of innovative solutions in the areas of health, energy and the environment.

Similarly, the team of scientists addresses the potential evolution and challenges facing this technology, offering conclusions regarding the possible alternatives it may provide in the future.

The analysis was carried out within the framework of the ‘Science for Public Policy’ (Science For Policy) programme, promoted by the CSIC, which brings together research conducted at the Council’s centres and institutes on specific scientific and social issues, to provide robust scientific evidence to support public decision-making.

The work was coordinated by Marta Castellote (Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Science (IETCC)), José Luis Hueso (Aragon Institute of Nanoscience and Materials (INMA)) and Gerardo Colón (Seville Institute of Materials Science (ICMS)). In this way, the researchers aim to harness the potential of photocatalytic technology to address social challenges and applications, whilst transforming the knowledge from the various research centres into accessible recommendations on a range of topics of interest.

Science4Policy is a programme that aims to provide a collection of reports to improve public policy and connect science and society by bridging the gap between the scientific knowledge generated at CSIC institutes and the needs of policy-makers. In this way, the programme seeks to facilitate policy-making on current issues.
