1st “Fascinated by Plants” Photography Competition

To mark the celebration of International Plant Fascination Day 2026, the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (IBVF, CSIC-University of Seville) is organising the 1st “Fascinated by Plants” (F2xP) Photography Competition, under the auspices of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO).

1. Theme
Photographs should convey the beauty, diversity, relevance and usefulness of plants. Technique and approach are entirely open: flora, vegetation, landscapes, detail photography, microphotography, etc.
The aim is to reflect the importance of plants in our lives and highlight the fundamental role of plant biology research for society, the environment and the economy, both now and in the future.

2. Participants
Anyone wishing to express, through an image, their admiration and fascination with plants may enter. Entries must be:
• Original, the entrant’s own work and unpublished.
• Not previously published, awarded a prize or currently under consideration in other competitions.
• Not subject to third-party rights.

3. Entries
Each participant may submit a single photograph in digital format. The entries will be published on the IBVF’s Instagram account from 7 May 2026 for public voting, which will remain open until 14 May 2026.

4. Deadline
The deadline for submissions is 6 May 2026. The jury’s decision will be announced on 18 May 2026.

5. Submission and format
Photographs must be sent by email to:
The email must include:
• First name, surname and ID number of the entrant.
• Title and brief description (maximum 100 words) of each photograph.
The image format must be:
• JPG
• 1080 x 1350 pixels.
• 300 dpi resolution.
• The file name must match the title of the photograph.

6. Prizes
The F2xP awards ceremony will be held in the IBVF Assembly Hall on 18 May 2026, attended by officials, the media and members of the jury. Four prizes will be awarded, divided into two categories:
• People born in or after 2003:
– First prize: €500
– Runner-up prize: €250
• People born before 2003:
– First prize: €500
– Runner-up prize: €250

7. Jury
The public vote on Instagram will count as one of the five total votes. The other four will be cast by a jury comprising photography specialists and scientific staff from the IBVF. The jury’s decision is final.

8. Rights
Participants guarantee the authorship, originality and ownership of the images submitted, as well as full respect for the rights of third parties.

9. Final considerations
Participation in this competition implies full acceptance of these rules.
Failure to comply with any of them may result in exclusion from the competition and, where applicable, the return of the prize awarded.
