Seville, November 7, 2018. On the occasion of the Science and Technology Week —the largest annual event for scientific dissemination at a European level—, the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Center (cicCartuja) is holding a series of open-door activities with the aim of bringing science closer to the public.
Among these activities is the Café con Ciencia, in which high school students share breakfast with cicCartuja researchers and discuss their scientific concerns, in a friendly and participatory environment.
As usual, there are three Round Tables, one for each research institute that makes up cicCartuja. In this context, the scientists from the center will act as hosts and moderate the talks, achieving the highest possible degree of involvement with the students in the activity.
In this 2018 edition, which will take place on November 14th from 10:00 a.m., we will be visited by 39 high school students from the French Schools who will be divided into 3 groups. The distribution of the Roundtables is as follows:
Myths and legends of transgenic foods
⇒ José Manuel Pardo Prieto (IBVF)
Nanomaterials, much more than miniaturization
⇒ Juan Ramon Sánchez Valencia (ICMS)
Catalysts: the magic molecules of chemistry
⇒ Salvador Conejero Iglesias (IIQ)
Finally, it should be noted that the Café con Ciencia is an initiative organized by the Fundación Descubre, in collaboration with the main research and dissemination entities of Andalusia. It is part of the activities of the Science Week and has the support of the Ministry of Economy and Knowledge.
