Sevilla, Abril 14, 2010. A recognition of teaching quality and excellence in research. This is how the value of the Fame Award, obtained by Miguel García Guerrero in the area of Science, could be summed up. With this award, the University of Seville honors one of its “most internationally prestigious” professors, who has already become a benchmark in studies on photosynthesis, nitrogen metabolism and microalgae biotechnology. Born in Campillos (Malaga) in 1948, Miguel García Guerrero has developed an extensive academic career at the University of Seville, is the author of more than 130 research papers in international journals and books on biochemistry, plant physiology, microbiology and biotechnology, and has been director of the IBVF and cicCartuja. On March 8, García Guerrero was also awarded the Javier Benjumea Puigcerver Prize for his work “Development of processes of industrial, energetic and environmental interest based on microalgae”, to which he now adds this Fama Prize, which recognizes his entire research career.

Together with the Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the linguist Antonio Narbona Jiménez, in the category of Arts and Humanities; the Professor of Evolutionary Psychology Jesús Palacios González, in the area of Social and Legal Sciences; and the Professor of Fluid Mechanics Antonio Barrero y Ripoll, in the specialty of Engineering and Architecture, were awarded prizes. The awards ceremony, which was held in the University Auditorium, was presided over by the Rector, Joaquín Luque, who stressed the importance of research as “the keystone of the university vault”.
