For the fourth consecutive year, the Centro de Investigaciones Científicas Isla de la Cartuja will host, between September 13 and 17, the postgraduate course “Structure Determination in Real Solids: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Technique”. The aim of this course is to introduce a group of 16 students to the basic concepts of NMR of solids, a technique of notable importance for the development of different lines of scientific research, especially related to inorganic chemistry. Divided into theoretical and practical classes, the course will start with some theoretical lessons, which will serve as a prelude to some practical sessions, in which the spectroscopy equipment of cicCartuja will be used, as well as the appropriate computer programs to treat and mathematically process the spectra obtained in the tests.
This academic activity will be led by María Dolores Alba Carranza, a CSIC scientist at the Institute of Materials Science in Seville and head of the General NMR Service at cicCartuja. Among the professors who will give the theoretical classes are doctors from different centers of the CSIC and the French CNRS. Miguel Ángel Avilés will coordinate the practical sessions.
