A group of scientists from the Institute of Chemical Research (IIQ), a center attached to cicCartuja, has launched the workshop “Glycoscience: tools and molecules”. The conference, which will take place at the University of Milan on December 15 and 16, 2010, will highlight the importance of glycoscience, a scientific field that deals with the study of carbohydrates and their involvement in biological processes. Among the IIQ researchers who are part of the organizing committee of this workshop are Dr. Francisco Javier Rojo, CSIC Senior Scientist, Researcher of the Carbohydrates Group, who develops his work at cicCartuja; and Dr. David J. Parras, hired within this network in management tasks. The workshop will consist of several lectures, given by international experts who will address the problems of the preparation and characterization of carbohydrates from the most up-to-date approaches in chemistry, biology and medicine. Due to their interdisciplinary nature, these conferences will be useful for young researchers from different scientific areas.
This workshop is part of the training program of the European Network Carmusys (Carbohydrate Multivalent System as Tools to Study Pathogen Interactions with DC-SIGN), coordinated by the IIQ group and involving twelve research groups from seven European countries, all of which are involved in the advancement of knowledge in glycoscience.
