Between 15 and 18 November 2010, the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Centre (cicCartuja) will open its doors to young students on the occasion of Science and Technology Week. In these days, the cicCartuja will try to promote scientific vocation and culture through seven informative talks. The inaugural conference will take place on November 15, starting at 12 noon, and will be given by the guest researcher Manuel Lozano Leyva, Professor of Atomic, Molecular and Nuclear Physics at the University of Seville, who will give a presentation entitled “Ten discoveries that changed the vision of the world”. They will be attended by students from the Faculty of Communication of Seville.
In the following days, cicCartuja will organize talks related to the work carried out in its three Institutes: Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (IBVF), Institute of Materials Science (ICMS) and Institute of Chemical Research (IIQ). These presentations, which will be given by scientists from the Center, correspond to the contents taught in the baccalaureate subject “Science for the Contemporary World“, which is intended to be useful for both teachers and secondary school students who attend the different events.
Likewise, students and teachers will be able to tour the facilities of the cicCartuja to discover the scientific work carried out in its three Institutes. The Centre‘s own researchers will be in charge of guiding the groups through the different services and laboratories, illustrating some of the most significant processes in biochemistry, chemistry and materials science with explanatory posters. As a complement to this visit, attendees will receive the second edition of the cicCartuja Scientific Dissemination Notebooks, where the texts of each of the scheduled talks are collected.
