Science Week is the largest annual event for the dissemination of science at a European level. In this context, cicCartuja organises a series of activities with a marked informative tone to publicise the research carried out at its three institutes in the areas of biology, chemistry and materials science.
The core of the proposed activities is the informative talks that will take place from 11 to 14 November. This year, seven scientists will give lectures on topics of unquestionable relevance to society as a whole, such as materials science in historical-artistic heritage, regulatory mechanisms that improve crop production, fundamental enzymes in the translation of the genetic message with very interesting applications in synthetic biology, development of new drugs, plasma technology and its applications, plastic materials to guarantee the future of our well-being, and the use of hydrogen as a sustainable fuel. The talks are open to the general public.
cicCartuja also publishes the Cuadernos de divulgación ciencia: encuentros con las ciencias para el mundo contemporánea (Scientific Dissemination Notebooks: Encounters with Science for the Contemporary World), which is now in its fifth edition. This publication contains summaries of the content of the talks given by the researchers.
In addition to the informative talks, on November 4, cicCartuja held a Café con Ciencia (Coffee with Science) where students from three high schools in the province had the opportunity to share a breakfast with cicCartuja scientists and ask them questions about their research and their respective professional careers in a friendly and participatory environment. Finally, during this week the Advanced Laboratory of Nanoscopies and Spectroscopies of the Institute of Materials Science of Seville also opens its doors and shows its facilities, electronic nanoscopies and applications.
