Colloquium – Nanotechnology and Health: Where are we?

Seville, November 10, 2014. Among the various informative activities framed within the Science and Technology Week, the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Centre (cicCartuja) opens its doors and invites you to participate in the colloquium entitled nanotechnology and health, which will take place in the assembly hall next Wednesday, November 12, at 12:00 noon.

The emergence of nanotechnology in health sciences has given rise to a new discipline, Nanomedicine. This new discipline is shaping up to be the greatest revolution in the treatment of diseases to date. But where exactly are we at this moment?

This round table will attempt to debate and answer some of the key questions raised by the nanotechnological revolution in medicine. At what point are its practical applications? What are nanomedicines like? To what extent will nanomedicine affect traditional medical practice? How much is science and how much is fiction? Has nanotechnology already been incorporated into the arsenal of tools for searching for and improving medicines in pharmaceutical multinationals? Are there already nanoproducts on the market that improve health? What is the current legislation regarding the marketing of a nanomedicine? And within this colloquium, an attempt will also be made to debate what are the ethical issues related to research in nanomedicine?
