Seville, 24 February 2014. Today, the seventh edition of the “cicCartuja Ebro Foods Award” has been announced. This morning the jury met to decide that the winner will be Miguel Anaya Martín (ICMS). In addition to the first prize, the jury awarded two second prizes to Manuel Oliva Ramírez (ICMS) and Pablo Ríos Moreno (IIQ), respectively.
The “cicCartuja-Ebro Foods” Award recognises the work carried out by young researchers under 31 years of age, who have previously published scientific articles in prestigious international journals, in areas such as chemistry, biochemistry or materials science.
Since 2011, the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Centre (cicCartuja) and the Ebro Foods Foundation have awarded these prizes to promote the career of young researchers working at cicCartuja – a joint centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Andalusian Regional Government and the University of Seville. In this edition, the prize is worth 20,000 euros, of which 10,000 euros are for the winner, 5,000 euros for the first prize and another 5,000 for the second prize. These amounts have been donated by the Ebro Foods Foundation, which – through its president, Antonio Hernández Callejas – has been supporting the scientific excellence of young researchers at cicCartuja and the transfer of knowledge from the laboratory to society.
With Miguel Ángel de la Rosa, Director of cicCartuja, as President, the Evaluation Committee is made up of Salvador Loring, Director of Institutional Relations at Ebro Foods; Concha Yoldi, President of the Social Council of the University of Seville; Teresa Sáez, General Manager of Cartuja 93; Miguel Ángel Ferrer, Institutional Coordinator of the CSIC in Andalusia; Julián Martínez, Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Seville; Beltrán Calvo, President of the Business Circle of the Cartuja Science and Technology Park; Alfonso Caballero, Director of the Institute of Materials Science of Seville (ICMS); Luis Carlos Romero, Director of the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (IBVF) and Juan Cámpora Pérez, Vice-Director of the Institute of Chemical Research (IIQ).
