Jesús Campos Manzano, a scientist at the Institute of Chemical Research (IIQ) belonging to cicCartuja, has been awarded one of the three Young Researcher Awards that are awarded each year by the Royal Seville Academy of Sciences and the Royal Cavalry of Seville.

A doctor in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Seville (US), Jesús Campos is currently affiliated with the US and IIQ, specifically with the “Organometallic Chemistry and Homogeneous Catalysis” group, thanks to a Marie Curie contract. Despite his youth, Campos has an extensive curriculum of scientific awards and recognitions, including two Extraordinary Doctorate Awards, the Young Award for Scientific Culture, awarded by the City Council of Seville, and the ‘Javier Benjumea Puigcerver Research Award’. In 2016, the BBVA Foundation also awarded him one of its Grants for Researchers and Cultural Creators.

The studies carried out by this young Sevillian scientist focus mainly on the chemistry of iridium, rhodium, gold and platinum, as well as catalytic processes for organic synthesis and applications in green or environmentally sustainable chemistry.

Campos has also participated in the writing of more than forty scientific publications, being the first author in twenty of them. All have been published in international journals with a high impact index, such as Nature Chemistry, Nature Communications or Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS).

The Awards for Young Researchers of the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla and the Real Academia Sevillana de Ciencias are endowed with 6,000 euros each. Their purpose is to reward the scientific merits of outstanding young researchers and stimulate their vocation and dedication to science.
