Seville, October 31, 2017. On the occasion of Science and Technology Week —the largest annual event for scientific dissemination at European level—, the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Centre (cicCartuja) is holding a series of open-door activities to publicize the benefits that the generation of scientific knowledge brings to the general public.
Among these activities is the Café con Ciencia, in which pre-university students share breakfast with cicCartuja researchers and discuss their scientific concerns, in a friendly and participatory environment.
As usual, cicCartuja will have three round tables, one for each research institute that makes up the center. In this context, scientists will act as hosts and moderate the talks, achieving the involvement of students in scientific activity.
The 2017 edition will be held on November 15 at 10:30 a.m. and will feature the presence of 2nd year Baccalaureate students from the IES Hipatia, from Mairena del Aljarafe (Seville).
The proposed panels and their moderators are:
- “The Midas Touch”: the shine of gold in the light of science
Researcher: Juan Cámpora (IIQ)
- Is the genetic code just a boring table of letters?
Researcher: Ignacio Luque (IBVF)
- Can a nanostructure illuminate your living room?
Researcher: Gabriel Lozano (ICMS)
Coffee with Science is an initiative organized by the Fundación Descubre, in collaboration with the main research and dissemination entities in Andalusia. It is part of the activities of Science Week and has the support of the Ministry of Economy and Knowledge of the Andalusian Government.
