Seville, January 29, 2018. Researchers from the Institute of Materials Science of Seville (ICMS), attached to the cicCartuja – a joint CSIC-University of Seville-Junta de Andalucía center – will participate in the activities proposed by the 11-F initiative on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Rosalía Poyato, Gisela Arzac and Juan Pedro Holgado, all of them attached to the ICMS, will be in charge of carrying out scheduled talks in some educational centers in Seville and the province.
The schedule of talks by the cicCartuja researchers is as follows:
Rosalía Poyato Galán
February 9: “Little scientists”. Salesian Schools María Auxiliadora (Seville). It will be given to Primary Education students.
February 12: Speaker at the Round Table “Physics in Seville: past, present and future” in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Physics, Avda. Reina Mercedes s/n, Seville.
February 13: Coffee with Science. Casa de la Ciencia de Sevilla.
February 14: “Diamond, graphite and graphene, are they related?”. CEIP Marie Curie (Seville). It will be taught to Primary Education students.
February 15: “Woman + scientist + graphene = why not?” IES Margarita Salas (Seville). It will be taught to ESO students.
Gisela Arzac
February 15: “Experiences of scientists”. Colegio Infanta Leonor (Tomares, Seville). It will be taught to Primary Education students.
Juan P. Holgado
Date pending confirmation: “Wise women: from witches to scientists”. Ana María Matute School (Dos Hermanas, Seville). It will be taught to students of Early Childhood Education.
February 13: Colloquium “Wise and scientific women: invisible and forgotten”. Presented by Cristina Rojas and Juan Pedro Holgado. Speaker: Adela Muñoz Páez (Professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, University of Seville). Cultural Center – Montequinto Library (Dos Hermanas, Seville).
The 11-F initiative was born with the purpose of commemorating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Activities such as talks, performances, workshops or exhibitions can help to make the work of scientists visible, in addition to creating female roles in the fields of science or promoting practices that favor gender equality in the scientific field. These events will be held throughout Spain from February 1 to 15.
