The Spanish Crystallization Factory and the DESCUBRE Foundation, in collaboration with the Andalusian Universities, are holding the 2017-2018 Crystallization Competition at School. Organized by the Laboratory of Crystallographic Studies of Granada, this year the Grand Final of the Competition in Andalusia was held at the ETS of Civil Engineering of the University of Granada on May 12.
The Crystallization Competition at School is designed to teach secondary school students how Science is done and enjoyed, and how to compete in scientific fields through a “competitive competition” format that uses all the ingredients of the scientific method: from research in the laboratory to the presentation of scientific results at a “scientific congress”.
The main objective is none other than to disseminate the importance of the world of crystals in modern society and above all to promote study, systematic work, rational thinking and communication among young students, taking advantage of attractive crystallization experiments.
In this edition, cicCartuja sponsored the 5 contestants from the province of Seville, helping them with the printing of their posters. Of the 23 participating Andalusian teams, one of the Sevillian teams won third prize with the project ‘Krystallos’, it was the IES Delgado Brackenbury from Cabezas de San Juan (Seville).
