The Seville researcher Manuel Mallén Ponce, with a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral contract in the “TOR signaling and mechanisms of cellular adaptation to stress” Group, of the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis, has recently received the II “Ezequiel Martínez Andalusian Federation of Athenaeums Award”, for young Andalusian researchers on the Environment and Climate Change.
His work on “Study of the TOR signaling route in microalgae isolated from nature” has been awarded the prize in the opinion of the Jury, chaired by the biologist and former director of the Doñana Biological Station, Miguel Delibes de Castro.
Manuel Jesús has a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Seville and his research activity focuses on the regulation of metabolisms and photosynthesis through different signaling routes.
Coinciding with World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5, the award ceremony will be held today, Friday, June 2, at 8 p.m., at the Ateneo de Mairena del Aljarafe, Seville. The event will be attended by the researcher from Aznalcázar, Manuel Mallén, and will feature a performance by violinist Aurora Villalobos, from the Hispalense Symphony Orchestra.
The award is named after the journalist, communicator, environmental educator, writer and patron of the Savia Foundation, who as a journalist has worked in major media outlets and has won more than seventy local, regional, national and international awards.
