On Wednesday, September 18, the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), an organization dependent on the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, presented a new strategic infrastructure: the CSIC Chemoteca (QCSIC).
The event was opened by the Vice President of Scientific and Technical Research of the CSIC, José María Martel, and was attended by the Secretary General of Research, Eva Ortega Paíno. The Director of the Institute of Chemical Research and the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Center, who is also the coordinator of the initiative, made a presentation on the Chemoteca, addressing its origins, importance and achievements. Later, a round table entitled “Small molecules for great challenges” was held, in which the following experts participated:
José Bartolomé, Research Director of the Toledo Center of the Janssen company.
Rafael Fernández-Chacón, Director of the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville.
Mª Jesús Pérez-Pérez, Research Professor at the Institute of Medical Chemistry-CSIC.
Margarita del Val, Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform (PTI) Global Health.
Javier García Martínez, President of IUPAC (2022-2023) and “Juan de la Cierva” National Research Award winner.
The CSIC Chemoteca is part of the “Global Health” field and aims to address challenges related to human, animal and plant health, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration to develop innovative solutions. In addition, it seeks to strengthen interaction with the business sector, facilitate the generation of new patents and, ultimately, contribute to the development of more effective treatments.
This infrastructure, born within the Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform Global Health, is coordinated by the Director of the Institute of Chemical Research of Seville, and has the outstanding collaboration of the Institute of Medical Chemistry of Madrid and the Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia.
