Young researchers to discuss the latest scientific and technological advances in catalysis
  • The Spanish scientific society that brings together leading experts in this field will hold a congress in Seville from June 17 to 19.

  • Interested participants may submit their abstracts with research results until February 20 through the congress website.

  • As a novelty this year, a full session block has been included on results related to modeling, computational chemistry, and machine learning.

The Spanish Society of Catalysis (SECAT) has begun preparations for the Seventh Meeting of Young Researchers, which will take place from June 17 to 19 at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Seville. During these days, researchers will discuss the latest scientific and technological advances achieved in this key field for innovation in industries such as transport, agriculture, and medicine, among others.

Under the slogan “A bridge toward the future of catalysis,” the VII SECAT Meeting of Young Researchers aims to strengthen ties between early-career scientists and create opportunities for networking and scientific collaboration. The event is therefore aimed at PhD students and researchers in their postdoctoral stage.

Those interested in attending must submit an abstract with their expected results by February 20 via the congress website. On this site they will also find a preliminary program of the congress, as well as possible accommodation options in the city of Seville.

The organizing committee, made up of researchers from the Institute of Materials Science of Seville (ICMS) – a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Seville – among other institutions and universities, is designing a program that will include plenary sessions, oral communications, poster presentations, and networking activities, combining science and social interaction in a friendly atmosphere.

As a novelty this year, the organizers have included a new thematic area aimed at adapting to the latest advances in industry, such as modeling, computational chemistry, and machine learning applied to catalysis. In addition, other blocks will be included, such as the generation, capture, and utilization of H₂ and CO₂; the synthesis of new catalysts and advanced characterization; catalysis for industrial applications and process simulation; biocatalysis, photocatalysis, and electrocatalysis; and biomass, biorefinery, and waste valorization.

Industry support

The organization of this meeting has significant support from industry, which has focused on the innovations that will be presented during this congress with the aim of improving their products and/or services, including companies such as Moeve, Meryt, Acerinox, and Anorsur.
