Cecilia Gotor Martínez, a researcher at the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (CSIC), has taken up the post of director of the Isla de la Cartuja Scientific Research Centre, a joint centre run by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the University of Seville (US) and the Regional Government of Andalusia. Noureddine Khiar El Wahabi has handed over the directorship of the centre to Cecilia Gotor, after four years in the role.
About Cecilia Gotor
Cecilia Gotor is a principal researcher in the Sulphur and Cyanide Metabolism and Signalling group. She graduated with a degree in chemical sciences from the University of Seville in 1984 and obtained her PhD in 1988 with a thesis in biochemistry and molecular biology entitled “Regulatory and immunological studies of glutamate synthases in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii”. She has undertaken postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Rutgers University.
She joined the CSIC in the 1990s as a research professor at the Institute of Biochemistry and Photosynthesis, where she remains to this day. Her research focuses on the study of sulphur metabolism and cell signalling mediated by compounds such as hydrogen sulphide and cyanide. She combines her research work with scientific outreach activities, such as those of the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM).
